For the best insurance for your motorcycle, always enquire about insurance before you buy the motorcycle. There have been cases where the buyers have found themselves unable to get insurance after buying the motorcycle. Living in a very high crime rate area, too young and very expensive machines are some of the reasons.
Getting full coverage on a motorcycle can be expensive, and often only written for bikes of high value. Liability coverage protects you from people you injure, or property you damage. Some carriers require passenger liability to be added as a separate coverage. Comprehensive and collision coverage covers the cost to repair or pay the total loss value of the motorcycle as a result of a covered loss.
Some insurance carriers allow extra coverage on custom parts and equipment to be extended higher than the built in limit on the policy, for an additional premium. Roadside Assistance may also be added to the policy for specified reasons.
There are some carriers, primarily insuring in the northern states, that figure the rates for a policy based on a built in lay up during the winter months. Always check for this type of limitation, or you could wind up with no coverage if a loss occurs during this time period.
