Personal
Umbrella
Policy
Not
everyone feels the need for the extra protection that Umbrella* coverage provides, but
it is important to
ask yourself, “If I were sued, do I have adequate liability
insurance or would I face a financial burden beyond my
means?”
While your auto and homeowners policies
should
contain coverage limits adequate to respond to most situations,
damages awarded against you could exceed your coverage.
A comprehensive umbrella policy provides
a
solution for customers who require protection beyond their auto,
homeowners, and other personal liability policies. One of
our
auto carriers, Casco Indemnity Company, will add umbrella
coverage
to their auto policy when underwriting requirements are fulfilled.
Check out their informative pamphlet on umbrella coverage.
Talk with us about how you can make a
realistic
assessment of your protection needs. You may decide that you
are comfortable with your current level of coverage. But, if
your assets are such that a lawsuit could potentially take away the
things you have worked hard for, you may want the added
coverage you get with an umbrella policy-no matter how much care
you take to avoid risk.
Here is a brief summary of the coverage
provided
under an umbrella
policy.
- Liability:
Coverage up to $1
million** for bodily
injury, personal
injury, and property damage for which you are held legally
responsible, including that arising out of the use of owned
personal watercraft and recreational motor
vehicles.
- Defense:
Coverage for defense
costs if a lawsuit is brought against you for damages because of
bodily injury, personal injury, or property damage caused by an
occurrence or offense covered by your
policy.
- Additional
Expense Coverage:
In addition to the limits of liability, coverage is included for
expenses for a covered claim or suit the insurance company is
obligated to defend. This includes premiums on required bonds
and reasonable expenses you incur in assisting in the investigation
or defense of a covered claim or
suit.
